Have you ever been in a job where you wanted more?
Have you ever been asked to develop your weakness?
Do you, or someone you know struggle to find their passion and purpose?
Do you want to build your confidence? Build a more hopeful future?
This was me in 2015. I was working for an international non-profit (Save the Children) in the field of human resources. The organization had a great mission, the job had great benefits, and there were parts of the job that I liked. But toward the end of the summer, after gathering my courage, I walked into a meeting with my manager and said (in so many words):
“I quit.”
She wasn’t surprised. She knew there was a fire in my belly. Ever since I got my certification as a strengths coach in 2013, I could talk of nothing else. In fact, she chided me on this point. We agreed to a six-month transition period.
As of January 1st, 2016 I started my own venture, Teach with Strengths, with a mission to serve people who want more for themselves and their career. Through the application of the strengths mindset (Clifton StrengthsFinder), I coach individuals, teams, and organizations to success.
My mission:
To transform how we learn and work through the application of the strengths mindset.
For ten years I helped the organization develop its leaders. While at the same time I attempted to develop my leadership. Here’s what I have concluded:
Weakness fixing doesn’t work.
If you are in a role and you are being told to fix your weaknesses, you are likely filled with doubt, a sense that you need to be someone else. For me, the experience filled me with anxiety, as if at any point something was going to go wrong. This creates a vicious cycle that can be very demoralizing. There is a better way.
The strengths mindset leads to success.
What about you?
Have you ever been in a job where you wanted more?
Have you ever been asked to develop your weakness?
Do you wish your work could bring you more passion and purpose?
Do you know someone who is struggling to find their passion and purpose?
Do you want to build your confidence? Build a more hopeful future?
…then learn to use the strengths mindset.
